Voz tomada del inglés americano closet (‘armario’), que se usa en la mayor parte de América con el sentido de ‘armario construido en el hueco de una pared’. Es anglicismo asentado en el español americano. Su plural es clósets ( plural, 1h): «No tocó la ropa de Gustavo, ordenada en los clósets, porque no quería que la acusara de entrometida» (Donoso Elefantes [Chile 1995]). En español, ambas formas, singular y plural, deben escribirse con tilde ( tilde2, 1.1.2). En los países del Río de la Plata se usa, con este sentido, el galicismo placar ( placar), mientras que en España se emplea únicamente la expresión armario empotrado.
